Police:
Not much going on…Officer de la Pena did want to make everyone aware that they are looking for a black man, around 5’8” 180#’s or so, 35 or older. He was last seen wearing a black cap with a purple visor. He has been seen in Balboa Park (last was on the bridal trail)…having a bit of fun with himself.
Also she warned that laptops are being stolen, please keep an eye out and be especially careful not to leave yours behind when in any business, even for a minute.

Dani Stroud, the community liaison for the City’s Attorney’s office was also present to remind us that they are there to help with any chronic problems or individuals that residents and businesses are experiencing. She can be reached at 533-5500 or dstroud@sandiego.gov

GGH:
The Planning Committee is still in the process of drilling down the important issues for the community plan. The Cheret (sorry if I’m misspelling this) is scheduled for some time in September.

Bike South Park:
Jennifer from Monkey C Media reported that they need approval on the proposed list of bike racks to send to the city for feasibility assessment (this list was approved with a few additions). Once the assessment is completed they will be installed and then painted to coordinate with the South Park Colors.
She also handed out a design for “Bike South Park” stickers, this was approved with the addition of the southparkscene website (recommended by Joe from Grant’s Marketplace). In addition to these stickers, another design will be created to be placed on bikes as well with Jennifer having approval to print a quantity of both that equals up to $200.

Branding for South Park:
Matt from Alchemy reported that they have spoken with a few branding consultants and that they have all said that a brand needs to be created for the neighborhood and then you can go from there. He is asking that everyone come up with an idea or two for the next group meeting. To get more involved with this committee, they will meet June 3rd from 8:30 – 9:30 at Alchemy.

Parking:
Discussed on how best to get more parking in the neighborhood without having a multi-storey garage. Diagonal seems the best way. The proper procedure for getting this done will be looking into. It was also suggested that businesses interested in having diagonal parking work on this process together so it has a more cohesive neighborhood impact.

Public Relations Committee:
Maureen from Studio Maureen reported on all the work that Marsha has been doing. Marsha has coordinated with the North Park News in getting good coverage on the Old House Fair and also helping to produce the first ever South Park Guide, which was a huge success. Marsha has also been diligent on updating the social media outlets, such as Facebook. In addition, because of her contact with Sunset Magazine was able to get a nice article on South Park in the June edition.

Posters and postcards are done, please see Maureen from the Studio Maureen if you would like any to put in your windows or hand out to your customers.
To help facilitate people seeing all the booths, there will be a few dogs up for adoption at the Old House Fair…get an Old Dog for your Old Home. ☺ These pooches in need of a home are from 2nd Chance and Friends of Tijuana Humane Society.
For the first time, souvenirs will be available, there are some great designs on tiles and coffee cups.
Bike Valet will be in the patio area of the old Santos, this is hosted by Thomas Bike Shop. They will also be renting out bikes for those interested. In addition, they will have maps of all the homes that have been on the tour for the last 6 years (including this year).

Walkabout - July 17th
All businesses need to remember to raise awareness about security and liabilities with fellow businesses, i.e. have someone from your shop hand out the alcohol to reduce the chance of a minor getting some and also to limit the intake of some of the “happier” participants. The group is researching the possibilities of having someone patrol the pedestrian traffic at 30th and Juniper. (Elite Security or the RSVP’s). Booths that are on the streets and sidewalks need to be cognizant of public right of way. In addition, the group is looking for someone to ride the trolley (possibly get paid) during the event to help the driver. The group will also be researching any potential liabilities or permits needed with having food outside. If you are a business that is currently doing so, you should be looking into this as well.

CDC:
Held a mixer at Luigi’s on the 26th, they will be looking to do one of these every month, on the last Wednesday, keep your calendar’s open. Only $10 for non-members, everyone is invited.
June 26th will be a private wine tasting at Pat Martin’s house on 22nd. In order to attend, you’ll need to bring 2 bottles of wine worth a minimum of 92 points (Grant’s has the point system). This has been a very fun evening in the past.
July 31st will be the Gala celebration. Left over wine from the tasting will be auctioned off. They do need additional silent auction items (gift baskets and certificates) and sponsors. If anyone is interested or would like to join the committee, please call 696-9992, the committee meets on Tuesdays at 10:30 am at the CDC office.

MAD:
Discussed internal business, nothing to report.

New Business:

• Grant’s Marketplace is still offering free involvement with his S.L.O.B. (Supporter of Locally Owned Businesses) campaign, he won’t be doing this much longer, so if you’d like to get involved for free, contact him as soon as possible. You can see more at www.imaslob.org.
• Thomas Bike Shop is sponsoring the San Diego Bike Polo team and Christ United has agreed to lease out their playing field.
• Make Good, a new store in the area, welcome! Is having their grand opening this weekend, Saturday, the 29th, from 6 – 9 pm, 2207 Fern St. Stop by and say hi.
• Monkey C Media, will be having an event on June 6th…”Voices 4” an evening of music and words. They will be having wine and food as well.
• Albert Einstein Academy is having their Gala on June 4th, they are recognizing their business supporters on their website. They are still looking for silent auction items. The event will be at the Hall of Champions and is $45 a ticket.
• 30th on 30th is coming up soon, please remember to be safe and use the Park 2 Park shuttle.
• Alchemy will be hosting the Art & Soul Tour on June 3rd, 100% of the proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks.
• South Park Psychological Services has a space for sublease, please contact Jennifer Miller at 282-7333. It is a 400 sq. ft. space for around $800.
• Absolute Skin will be featured on Lifetime on June 6th and the 24th with their Absolute Miracle Cream at 7 am Eastern (4 am our time) make sure to get up early…or set your dvr’s. They will also be hosting a make up class on June 13th.
• So Childish is also looking for someone interested in a sublease for the 2nd ½ of their space, they do currently have some type of writing class in there.
• Studio Maureen is having an Artist Trading Card event the afternoon and evening of the Old House Fair on June 19th.

Lastly, it’s my minutes, so I can put something in when I want. Just want to say thank you to Marsha for all your hard work with the South Park Guide, it looks fantastic! Glad we could be a part of it.

North Park News
