MINUTES - SOUTH PARK BUSINESS GROUP MEETING

October meeting held at Alchemy Restaurant at 8:30 on the 27th of October

Chaired by Matt Thomas, Alchemy until Donna Walker, South Bark Dog Wash came in

Next meeting on November 24, 8:30 am, at Alchemy Restaurant (yes the day before Thanksgiving)

Police:
Officer Dick Ward was in attendance, his cell is 760-994-6317. He had nothing specific to report, only that Grape Street dog park has been a problem with people letting their dogs offleash before entering the park and going there after hours. He wanted to warn everyone that citations will be issued as complaints are mounting.
In addition, be aware that 4Runners are being targeted for their catalytic converters. This is always a good idea, but especially with the holidays coming up…DO NOT LEAVE THINGS IN YOUR CAR. These just make great crimes of opportunity.

Greater Golden Hill Update of Community Plan:
2 of the charettes are done, the first went over the community input and under utilized properties. (map circulated). The 2nd meeting concentrated on the mobility and parks, the City was impressed with our bike program
The last charette is Nov. 6th, 8:30 am – 1 pm at the Golden Hill Elementary

Everyone won the pumpkin carving contest!! ☺
Following are the proposed dates for 2011 Walkabouts. We will vote on them at the November meeting:
2011 dates:
Spring – March 26
Summer – July 16
Fall – Oct. 1
Holiday – Dec. 3
Old House Fair will be on June 18

The theme for the Dec. 4th Walkabout is Twinkle Twinkle Mix and Mingle (thought up by Keri from Lulu’s By Travis Parker).
Please send what you plan on doing to spbg@lucyslist.net.
This will feature lights throughout the neighborhood. If you need any lights, stop by Studio Maureen. The lights should go on the trees in front of your business or on your storefront. You are to have your lights up by Nov. 20th if you need help hanging, Maureen’s daughter is available ☺

Posters and postcards are still available, stop by Studio Maureen to pick up.

Anne from The Grove and Tiffany from the BID Council are working on the “Walkabout Safety” letter to businesses and the “extra” vendors that set up on the sidewalks.

Lisa from South Bark Dog Wash did speak to the house that has the band playing and Sam from the Station will talk to them again about really trying to keep people out of the streets and off the sidewalk.

The topic of having “crossing guards” at 30th & Juniper was brought up. It was advised by a local attorney (Chris Taylor) that the group needs to be careful about taking charge of crossing, due to potential liability issues.

ASK Program:
Because of the success of The Old House Fair and the grant from the BID Council, SPBG’s “Ask Program” contribution for 2011 will be $100 per business. Payments of $100 for the ASK Program will be due by Feb. 1, 2011. Only those businesses that participate will be listed on the South Park Scene website, and on the map/promotional materials to be produced in 2011. Checks payable to South Park Business Group may be delivered to either The Grove or Studio Maureen.

(Watch your email for an invoice/form, to be delivered in November. You may bring your check to the November meeting if desired – some businesses want to get this expense paid in 2010.)

SDG&E
Amber Starbuck was our special guest speaker and she let us know that they have a lot of programs for small businesses. North Park is in the process of doing a pilot program. There is a program currently in place that offers efficiency updates, i.e. replace lighting and clean coils, etc. at no cost, after the first of the year, this program will include more amenities. She will let us know at that time.
She did let us know that they are doing an LED exchange program, free LED holiday lights in exchange for the inefficient old ones.

CDC/MAD:

Todd Gloria’s Office:
October is energy awareness month, Todd Gloria is working on the Protect Small Business Initiative (you may have read some things about this in the North Park News or UT), basically it stipulates that if a business is more than 90,000 sq. ft. it has to provide an economic impact study.
Council should vote on it within the next 2 months.
