Police:

Officer de la Pena announced that it has been quiet lately. She did want to remind everyone to be careful about leaving laptops or other items in plain view in cars, these create crimes of opportunity.
Lisa Vella from South Bark informed the group that a man came in quickly to their store, took a photo of 2 of the female employees and then left quickly. Be on the lookout.

Greater Golden Hill Update of Community Plan Report

There will be a charette (not sure on this spelling) in September (no date yet). These are multi-hour, multi-day meetings. The committee will have a meeting before then to iron out the details.
North Park, Uptown and Great Golden Hill are all working on Community Updates
Items included in the GGH: bike plan (share-o lanes, racks, density, character/branding, keeping historic housing, parks & canyons, neighborhood beautification).
If you would like a bike rack, create a diagram of where you would like it placed and give to Matt (Alchemy) or Jennifer (Monkey C Media). Keep in mind that the racks will be the staple kind and can be angled.

Walkabout Review:

The discussion about vendors outside of businesses was brought up again. Sam Chammas was approached by a local business regarding the vendors he has outside of his bar. The topic stemmed from it being a competing product and hurting the storefront business. Sam wanted to bring this to the group to further illustrate what we’ve been talking about…that outside vendors are allowed as long as the business that has them infront of their store is MINDFUL (word of the meeting) of other storefronts in the area.
Future dates are Oct. 2nd and Dec. 4th

CDC/MAD:

MAD was approved by the City Council
CDC is continuing their Community & Business Mixer Series, they are looking for venues to host in the future. The next one will be at Daily Scoop, on Wednesday the 4th of August. This one will be more family oriented with face painting, etc.
25th Street Revitalization contract should be signed soon. There will be 3 community meetings for input starting the end of Aug. beg. of Sept.
Pedro also wanted to mention that they are looking for new board members, so if you are interested, please contact his office at 696-9992.
Lastly, the GGHCDC will be having it’s annual (and only) fund-raiser on Friday, August 27, from 6-9pm at the Balboa Park Golf Course, they are looking for sponsors, silent auction items, ad space and nominations for the awards.

Todd Gloria’s Office:

Stone Brewery is opening up a tasting room and will have merchandise on sale at their new location, just behind Velo Cult.

Uptown News reported that they have a new sister publication: Gay San Diego that targets and covers the gay community, you can also go to their website www.sduptoonnews.com... just kidding we joked that I’d put in the wrong information, it’s www.sduptownnews.com

Velo Cult let everyone know that they are hosting the first ever wedding at a bicycle shop (that he’s aware of) and that if you know Jay Porter, you’re invited.

Donna Walker from South Bark brought up the Reader article pitting North Park against South Park…the group felt that there really isn’t a “feud” and that they were not impressed with the article and that it was just sensationalism journalism.
