MINUTES
SPBG February meeting held on 2/24 at Alchemy Restaurant
Chaired by Donna Walker from South Bark Dog Wash
Next meeting to be on March 31st at Alchemy Restaurant at 8:30 am

Todd Gloria’s Office:

Anthony Bernal was on hand to let us know that they are working on the graffiti problem and that the hotline for reporting is 858-694-7000.

There will be a mini-community clean-up & recycling day on March 10th at 8am. It will cover Beech to B St. and 28th to Fern St. If you would like to organize one in your community, let Anthony know.

Greater Golden Hill:

Nancy Sherman had the attachment on hand and wants to know what South Park would like to support.

The next Advisory Committees are crucial for people to attend, The next one is Saturday, March 20th. The following one (on March 25th) is where an open mic forum will be utilized to discuss the findings. EVERYONE is encouraged to attend.

Of the attached sheet, the group had the following as input:

#3. This is one of the top issues. A parking structure would be possibly considered.

#4. Possibly add that no drive-thrus be allowed.

#5. The majority of those in attendance were not for this.

Other considerations presented were restrictions on signage and cell phone towers.

There will be an open meeting of this Community Plan Sub-Committee to be announced later.

Public Relations:

Most people/businesses have given the $100 for the ASK Campaign

Walkabout dates are: March 27th, July 17th, Oct. 2nd, Dec. 4th. There was no discussion on changing these dates.

Please have your Spring Walkabout information to Marsha (spbg@lucyslist.net) by March 5th, for inclusion in email news, PR, Walkabout Guide, etc.

Walkabout Scavenger Hunt:

Leyla Chavez from So Childish reported that a Scavenger Hunt for the Spring Walkabout (March 27) is in the works. There will be one for children (4-5 stops) and one for adults (8-10) stops. To keep things simple the hunt will be limited to those participating, i.e. no final prize for those patrons going to all participating businesses. Each shop is encouraged to come up with a question that either can be answered by asking an employee or is easily discernable by going through the store. Please have your questions to Laila by March 5th (leyla@sochildish.com).

Old House Fair:

To be held on Saturday, June 19th, 10am-4pm, www.theoldhousefair.com.

Home Tour tickets are $20

Everything is moving along, a special thanks to the sponsors already lined up: Alchemy, South Park, Thomas Bikes, Hamilton’s Tavern, Grant’s, The Station/Whistle Stop, and Ed Landsberg, Realtor. All sponsors and vendors do have a listing in the Resource Guide and display advertising is available, starting at $100 for a business card size.

Police:

The RSVP’s are learning to lift fingerprints.

The current break-ins have not been solved because the fingerprints were not in the system, this leads the police to believe that it is a minor.

It has been fairly quiet, last week there was a break-in

The person committing the bike thefts has been arrested.

Officer Graham did warn people to be aware of about 5 individuals on bikes with the LED lights on their foreheads looking into cars.

Also, South Bark mentioned that there have been a rash of people carving into windows.

Keep your eyes peeled.

Community Reports:
CDC- only $50 membership for businesses, it’s a very important component for the neighborhood. Membership does get you into the mixers for a lot less.

MAD – Taken over by the CDC, there was no update.

Ron Roberts: Woo Jin Shu was on hand to let us know that if you think you are qualified for the earned income tax credit, please visit their website at www.ronroberts.com

The County is still providing H1N1 shots for free. The closest clinic is at 5202 University Ave., Monday – Thursday from 8:30 am – 11:30 am and from 1 pm – 4 pm.

In addition, the organization, United Values is helping with tree planting, the trees are free, some equipment fees may apply. You will need to show a 2 year plan to maintain the tree.

Continuing Business:

Bike Campaign: Skye from Velocult is working on this and will have an update at the next meeting.

The grant from the BID Council provides $250 to contribute to the Bike Campaign. Grant’s Marketplace and Alchemy Restaurant are already looking to put in a few new bikeracks around their businesses.

New Business:

Park 2 Park Shuttle, Omar Passons, www.sdpark2park.com will be offering a shuttle service between South Park, North Park, University Heights and Normal Heights from 6 pm – 12 am Thursday and 6 pm – 2 am Friday and Saturday. Omar will be having an owners meeting on Tuesday, March 2nd at 6 pm, pick up at The Linkery, courtesy of the 36 ppl vans, to the meeting and back, parking at the structure is validated. He will be offering a DUI prevention program where those participants that find themselves a little too “happy” at the end of the evening and take a cab home instead of driving will get a free breakfast. They just need to get the signed and dated receipt to Park 2 Park within 2 days. Depending on demand, they may do a historic brunch tour and they are looking to do an express tour for the Roots Festival on Adams Ave.
