II.    Police Report – Lt. Dawn Summers, SDPD
The San Diego Police Department has been investigating several burglaries that have occurred in South Park, Golden Hill and Burlingame neighborhoods.  In many of the thefts the suspect(s) were able to gain access to the residence via unlocked or open doors and windows.

Police are happy to report that this past month they have apprehended a juvenile group who are charged with the burglaries.  They have four local juveniles in custody and have recovered a great deal of stolen goods.  Currently, burglary numbers are down.  However, residents have to help out now.  A number of incidents are not being reported.  If you have witnessed any activity, contact Officer John Graham at (619) 685-8206 or SDPD Central Division at (619) 685-8207.

III.    MAD – David Skillman
Golden Hill CDC staff dealing with Assessment District funds are focused on using 2008 (last year’s) $300,000 budget allocation on upgrading and repairing neighborhood sidewalks.  These funds have been rolled over and can be used this year.

Urban Corp is working to clean up, sweep and maintain streets and sidewalks.  Some high use areas are cleaned twice a week.  If you observe a street or area that needs attention, please call Alex, Program Manager at CDC, overseeing the Urban Corp contract staff can be reached at (619) 664-5138.

IV.    Committee Reports
A.     Public Relations Committee – Marsha Smelkinson
l.  Peyton Robertson (SP Business Group consultant) Report
Peyton stated that this was another busy month.  Regarding media, the Air Trans magazine (May/June) will have So Childish and Halcyon Tea; (July/August) Big
Kitchen, Alchemy & Clarity Soap & Candles.  She hopes to highlight bicycle shops, in the North Park News:  Thomas Bike Shop, Velo Cult & Peace Palace.  There was a strong radio and print campaign for the Spring Walkabout.

2.  Spring Walkabout
Marsha emphasized the need for businesses to put on their Web (www.South Park Scene.com) an email link to the South Park web page.  Relevant links via email are a major marketing tool for everyone.  Request is for each business to write a bit about what you are planning for
      the Spring Walkabout.

Samantha Keene and Nancy Sherman will maintain an Information Table the night of the Spring Walkabout at the trolley stop in front of The Grove/Lulu’s.  They will hand out a schedule of activities being held at the various businesses. South Park T-shirts will be sold ($15 short sleeve; $20 long sleeve),

3.   Ask for Funds
A total of 29 business and individuals have donated fees to date.  The $150 annual fee supports South Park business marketing efforts, printed material, trolley, web page and email (etc.) in a coordinated effort to advance the South Park business community.  A few businesses have requested to pay less which is being accepted by the group.  If you have not received a letter requesting your donation and have not contributed yet, contact Marsha Smelkinson (marsha@lucyslist.net).  In the future those businesses that have not paid their dues will be named on the Web but not featured.  They will not be included on the Walkabout promotional materials or other publicity activity.

4.  Old House Fair – Maureen Ceccarelli
The Old House Fair (June 20th) is in its 11th year.  It will be held on Beech Street (between 30th & Dale) with 70 vendors projected.  A home tour for $15 ticket will feature 5 homes.  Two homes have now been secured.  A trolley tour will cover the greater Golden Hill area for $5, 00.  We currently need more sponsors (ideally 10 sponsors). Ed Landsberg Realtor and Whistle Stop are major sponsors ($1000).  Four community sponsors ($500) include Thomas Bike Shop, South Bark Dog Wash, Grant’s Market & Deli, and possibly Hamilton’s Tavern.  Income comes from vendor booths, the home tour booklets/ads, and sponsors.

V.    Todd Gloria’s Office  - Anthony Bernal, Council rep
Todd Gloria will be focusing on the Mayor’s proposed water conservation plan.
He is planning to institute a Saturday meeting one time a month with community groups in the communities he represents in a Town Hall format.  Location will be posted on his web page.

C.    Albert Einstein Academies, two local public charter schools, are requesting help in funding the restoration project of the historical mural on the corner of 30th Street and Ash Street in South Park.  Originally created by Mario Torero and the children of Brooklyn Elementary School, needs to be cleaned and repainted.  A brochure will be designed to educate the public as to the history of the mural and thank donors.  Further information and to make a donation ($50/$75 levels) to the $10,000 cost contact Principal Jeannette Vaughn (jvaughn@aeacs.org).

D.    PromoDeli, a new business developing promotional products made to order, is considering opening a storefront in South Park.  Owners Jean & Matthew Rivaldi distributed South Park Business Services Survey to those attending to get our feedback on the services needed in this community.  To contact email (info@promodel.com).

E.    Coalition on 30th Street – Cheryl Dye
Bringing a new organization to us in its embryonic stages, Cheryl Dye is the spokeswoman for a group advocating for improvements of 30th Street/ intersections.
This group believes that the entrance to Route 94 and to the north of 30th Street doesn’t represent the community and could create a new identity for Golden Hill and South Park generally.
Funding such as CDBG monies or Cal Transit monies will be required for a project of this scope.  This group is applying for the SD Architectural Community Award/Urban In fill/Beautification, due April 10th, in the amount of $25,000.  Last year this award went to Public Architecture for their mixed use project at 30th & Ivy.  This entirely volunteer group will apply under the 501c3 nonprofit status of the Greater Golden Hill CDC.  They are requesting our group’s endorsement in the form of a letter for this application.  Those present agreed unanimously to provide support to the group for the concept of the 30th Street/intersections’ improvement, as presented.

F.    Other businesses media/public relations discussed:  Monkey C Media, SignonSD.com, Union Tribune advertising, and YELP.
