SOUTH PARK BUSINESS GROUP
MONTHLY MEETING WEDNESDAY, AUGUST , 2009, 8:30 AM
MOOSE LODGE, 1648 30TH STREET IN SOUTH PARK
MINUTES

Joe Grant chaired the meeting.

POLICE
2 black males took the tips from Rebeca's...a reminder for everyone to be careful. Some in the group speculated that they lived in the apartment complex near by, the police seemed to believe because of the proximity of the bus station, they are taking the bus in and timing it to jump back on and leave.
Captain Ball is headed to the Northern Division on September 5th. He will be replaced with Captain Mark Jones who will be coming from North Eastern Division.
We will be keeping Lt. Dawn Summers
The next Captain's Advisory meeting will be on September 22nd @ 5:30 pm at Central Division, 25th & Imperial, lots of parking available.

MAD REPORT:
Our local MAD is experiencing some legal problems and the lawsuits may have merit. If this proceeds, the MAD may have to dissolve. The group can be re-orchestrated but as it stands in order for something to pass it needs a 50% + 1 vote, for a special assessment to pass it requires a 2/3rds majority.

GGH COMMUNITY PLAN UPDATE COMMITTEE
Has not met, the Community Plan should be written every 5-8 years. 1/2 of the committee (8) is comprised of Golden Hill Planning Committee, other 1/2 (7) is comprised of the public. The lottery drawing will be done on the 16th of September. September 30th will be the next meeting.
The are in the last phase of the tree trimming and are working on a new banner layout and design for the area.

Robert from South Park Fitness inquired about having a bike rack outside of his place. There may be 1 extra "old school" rack at Gala, Maureen will check into this. He will need to check with the City Planning department to make sure that his sidewalk is wide enough.

GGHCDC
Next business mixer will be held at The Station on September 23rd.
They are also planning a "Murder Mystery" in Febuary at the Moose Lodge (more details to follow).

PUBLIC RELATIONS Received the grant from the BID Council (3rd year in a row). This year we only received $6,375 as they are issuing more money out to more groups. The money will be used for marketing the Old House Fair, Walkabouts, Trolleys, Banners, funding for a Bike Event.

The Council wants more quantifiable information such as what money goes to what with how many people/businesses affected. This will help in future grant writting.
Keep in mind that this money needs to be spent by April. The money is given out on a reimbursement basis.

WALKABOUT
Need to do new card to include Oct. & Dec. date
Maureen asked for feedback on which changes people would like to see. Suggestions include:
Fall/Winter have leaves or snow flakes to differentiate it from the Spring/Summer one
Possible background color change as well
Dates need to be bolded
State the purpose more clearly of what the Walkabout is.
State that it's in one of the oldest neighborhoods, possibly mention specifically est. 1909

Walkabout Plans:
Grant's Marketplace will be celebrating their 7th year anniversary (music & food)
Monkey C Media will be having Gregory Page
PLEASE send what you will be doing/hosting/having to Marsha so she can cross post:
spbg@lucyslist.net

It was discussed about lighting up the neighborhood during the Walkabouts. Matt from Alchemy will get some bids from his tree lighting service and present at the next meeting.
Themes for the Walkabouts were also discussed...Oct. being Harvest and Dec. being Light up the Neighborhood.

10 News A List
Robert from South Park Fitness brought up the fact that there are about 20 businesses from the area nominated. As a group we should be voting for all the businesses to draw more awareness and exposure to the area. He has printed up postcards inviting people to vote and encourages others to do the same.

It was brought up that the block that contains The Station and the remodeled firehouse should be nominated for an "Orchid" award. Anne from The Grove will contact the Architectural Association to get more nominating details. They are just forming the selection committee.
